This week was so exciting as Wednesday we present the school assembly. We each had a speaking part. We shared some of the things we have done this year, 4 children recited their favourite poem we’d learnt this year and we showed the school in a power point all the wonderful things we have done with kidpix. Some of our parents came to watch. At the end they came and took photos of us on the stage and told us how great we were.

Below are the latest fire engines pictures we have created with kidpix. We will add more pictures as they are finished.

Week 7 Term 2 2008

We have had another very busy week at school. On Monday the community constable came to talk to us, she came with some funny hats and we had to help her find her correct hat.

On Wednesday we had an entertaining visit from Harrison’s mother Alison who is a hairdresser. She cut Harrison’s Nana’s hair for us and showed us how you can do highlights in hair using a special cap. She then sprayed some of our hair with interesting colours and sparkles – Mr Tim’s even had his hair sprayed ! Mrs Rennie-Younger had her hair straightened. Charlotte wanted to know how many colours you can put in your hair? She was delighted to hear the answer – which was as many as you like! Alison showed us all very tools and explained how she had to train to be a hairdresser.

We talked about how even as an adult you have to ‘keep trying’ when learning new skills which is just like the shared book we have had this week called ‘Keep Trying’

On Thursday we had a visit from Mike – the weatherman on T.V 3. He got people to pretend to be weather presenters. He showed us video clips of him and on Friday night he mentioned our school on the T.V – we are stars.

Our understanding of what a community is, is developing as we understand that within our community people do different jobs because no one person can be an expert at everything.

We have finally finished our labelling of the fireman using kidpix. – we are becoming increasing skilled at using the kidpix programme.

We are now drawing fire engines using kidpix. Here is Georgia’s fire engine. We will post all the fire engines when they are finished.

Below are the life cycle kidpix pictures we finished at the beginning of the term – we thought you might like to see them.

Week 6 Term 2 2008

This week we had a magical visit from Conor’s dad and members of the police service. We saw a dog handler, team policing van, motorbikes, police car and the police helicopter flew overhead. We got to listen to the police officers, sit on the motorbikes and in the team policing van as well as finding out answers to some of our questions.

We have also each written a narrative about a chef who has problems icing a wedding cake and read a shared book about a gardener.

Late one night a lazy chef was making a cake when the icing dripped down the cake. “Oh bother” said the chef. I will make the icing again. He made it looked stunning. He put the bride on the cake and ribbons and bows. He took the cake to the wedding and the people looked at the cake and thought it was beautiful.

Late one night the lazy chef made a cake for a wedding. The icing melted on the cake. The icing raced down the cake like a waterfall. The chef rang up another chef “make some new icing” said the chef. So the chef made some more icing. He put the bride and groom on the top of the cake. He took the cake to the wedding. The people thought it was fabulous.

Week5 Term 2 2008

This week we had a visit from the St John service. We learnt a lot about how they help people and how if we ever have to ring for an ambulance we need to be able to tell the person we talk to our name , address and phone number as well as tell them who needs to be helped. We got to use old telephones to practise ringing 111 by saying go1 go1 go1.
