A week of looking at the water cycle.
The book Mrs Wishy washy day has become a firm favourite in our class this week. We have laughed every time we have read it. We washed not animals but clothes, put them outside to dry and predicted what would happen to them and WHY? Our knowledge of the water cycle was at our finger tips and words like evaporation and water vapour rolled off our lips. We really enjoy being scientist in room 3.

Friday we ventured off on our trip to the rainforest express. It was a magical place with so much to see and do – we saw a lot of water- puddles, streams, river, waterfall, drains, water pipes, and dam. We also saw a wood pigeon and fantail. On the train trip we collected water from the stream, saw cave wetas and glow worms. It really was an action packed day.

Soccer
A number of our class play soccer on Saturday's. Mrs Rennie-Younger was lucky enough to see them playing. They are great little players.
Fire engine
Before school on Friday one of our class members made this wonderful fire engine on kidpix. Fantastic.

Who is looking at our blog?
The blend sm
This week we have looked at the blend sm. We listed all the words we knew that started with sm. In a book we found the word smocking. The next day 2 of our class members came to school wearing dresses with smocking. Fantastic.
Harry
Before the holidays Mackenzie told us her family were getting a puppy an Australian shepherd. We went on to google images - but every Australian Shepherd we looked at Mackenzie shook her head and said no that's not like him. When 'Harry' came to school we took a photo of him ! This is what he looks like.
A friendly cat
For the past few weeks when we have been for our swimming lesson this playful cat has joined us. It loves to watch us swim.
Autumn leaves

Praying mantis
Josie found this praying mantis climbing up on a wall. It was so exciting we took a photograph of it.
Tia's rabbit
On Tuesday afternoon Tia showed us her pet rabbit, Sam. A beautiful rabbit whose heat beat was racing by the time he’d spent time in our class as we were all eager to pat him
Reading is fun
Every day after morning tea we come inside and read books. It’s great to see such enthusiastic readers
Jigsaw puzzles
Some of us are getting very good at completing jigsaws persevering until the puzzle is completed.
Koru designs
We really are enjoying exploring koru designs.
A triangle
Tor was very proud of this triangle- he made it out of other geometric shapes.
Calendar art
Here we are working on our calendar art. We have painted our trees using cardboard and sponges. The finished piece of work is made into a calendar and is available for sale later in the year.
Watching the Totara team
Here we are watching the Totara team’s celebration at the end of their inquiry about volcanoes. We were all spell bound by their performance
Computer
Here we are before school using the computer to complete maths related activities.
The power of water
We were amazed by what the rain over night had done to our playground.
Glasses
Some of us made stunning glasses at developmental this week.
These two children were awarded pupils of the week at the schools weekly assembly. We are very proud of them.
A spectacular flower
We have looked at geometric shapes this week and one of our class members made this spectacular flower.
A magical unicorn
This magical unicorn told us he could grant wishes. When requests came thick and fast he informed us they could only be granted on Fridays. As it was only Wednesday we were out of luck!
Charlotte-Rose
Charlotte-Rose who is in year 6 often draws us a picture on the whiteboard. Today she drew us an octopus and left us a message. We replied letting her know we’d searched our room and found 7.
A pirate amongst us
Today one of our class members went out to get his morning tea and came back as a pirate ! Teaching five year olds is a lot of fun.
A nest
One of our class members brought in this nest her dad had found in the forest. She was delighted to tell us all about it and how it had been made by a grey warbler.
Construction
The boys made this house using geometric shapes and peg boards. Construction can be a lot of fun.
Developmental
Oh the fun we have at developmental – a container is a great place to sit with a friend and talk. Wouldn’t you agree.
Ronald McDonald
Ronald Mc Donald visited us today (11th June) . He was very funny and made us all laugh. We helped him to find his lost sock and he reminded us about keeping ourselves safe as we walk along the footpath and when we cross the road.
Pupils of the week
This week two children from our class were awarded pupils of the week. They were very proud of their achievements and so were we. Just look at those wonderful smiles
Developmental
We have developmental activities every Friday and today some members of the class made this wonderful road and tunnel. They had a great deal of fun playing with it and were very proud of their construction.
Skipping
We are all learning how to skip. We started with the basic jump and have progressed to the running step. This week we even tried the backwards jump. We are all so pleased with our efforts and we are getting better and better.
Mapathon
On Friday 8th June we were all tested on our knowledge of our New ‘Zealand map by Mrs Hawley or Mrs Robson. Most of us got them all right. We are hoping to raise a lot of money for new playground equipment.
Our budding potter
Look at this lovely piece of pottery made by our talented class member. She made it using a potter’s wheel at her Nana and Grandpa’s. We were all so impressed.
Farewell.
Today (1st June) we said farewell to one of our class members as he is going to live in Germany. We wish him all the best and hope he keeps in touch. He was delighted to tell us that he was heading to summer and we were just starting winter!
Our lovely librarian
Every week we go to the library and every week our lovely librarian has put aside a book for us to share. She has shared so many good books with us. We love going to see her and she always looks forward to seeing us.
J rock production
We have watched as J rock costumes and props have been stored in the space next to our room. On Friday 1st June we got to watch the J rock production. Much to our delight, the dance told the story of the life cycle of the butterfly.
Swimming
This week (week 5) we had our last swimming lesson. We looked at what the children could do after 10 swimming lessons and were impressed with the improvements they had made. Our next set of swimming lessons will be in term 4.
A beautiful Butterfly
Week 3 Term 2 One of our class members bought in a chrysalis she’d found in her Nana’s garden. We put it by the window and hoped for the best……. To our surprise it hatched – what a lovely treat to have a butterfly hatch in Autumn. We put it outside and hope it survives the cold weather
Autumn Walk
On Tuesday the air was fresh and the wind was blowing so we ventured out on an autumn walk. A great deal of fun was had walking through the autumn leaves and throwing them up into the air. The next day we wrote poems about them. Please come and read them in our room.
